The community of Calafell grew around a fortress, Calafell Castle, which originally dates from the first half of the eleventh century.

The castle is situated on a hill that dominates the landscape of the Calafell area. The mound was fortified in the first half of the eleventh century because of the conquest and repopulation of the territory from the Muslims.

You can visit the remains of a necropolis from the Middle Ages and a primitive Romanic church, in Lombard style. There you will be able to see remains of frescoes.

From the castle hill you have magnificent views over the plains of Calafell.
